St. Patrick’s Day is known for its libations. Green beer, Guiness and other Irish alcoholic beverages make an appearance at numerous establishments across the country on that day, including many here in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, the holiday’s festivities may have put one man’s future in jeopardy now that he faces DUI charges.
Reports indicate that at around 2:05 p.m. on that day, police received information about a suspected drunk driver. Apparently, someone witnessed a driver swerving in and out of his lane into oncoming traffic. At the same time, he was supposedly seen vomiting out the window of the vehicle while it was in motion.
When police caught up to the vehicle, they found a 30-year-old man driving it. Police took him into custody during that traffic stop. Officials say that a breath test indicated that he was, in fact, impaired at the time he was stopped.
He now faces charges for driving under the influence, along with other traffic violations. However, accusations do not equate to convictions. Like anyone else who may find him or herself in similar circumstances, he retains the right to challenge the charges.
Whether a Pennsylvania resident faces charges for DUI or another criminal offense, prosecutors must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. He or she is also entitled to confront any witnesses, review any evidence that may be presented to the court and enlist the aid of criminal defense counsel. It may seem simpler to plead guilty to a DUI charge and get through the process as quickly as possible, but fines and potential jail time could be the least of an individual’s worries. The potential ramifications to a person’s personal and professional lives often call for a more organized approach to one’s defense.
